Photography Week 2

This is our second week on photography. By the end of this week I’ll be handing in a mandatory assignment and a few learning activities, and in most of these hand-ins I’ll have to do some picture taking.

Here’s a sneak-peak of the next mandatory assignment due:

birgittecollection2The task is to create a photo essay that portraits a person. I chose to use artist and close friend Birgitte Karlsen. I highly recommend checking out her music, and you can do that on either spotify or/and facebook. As of now I’m still trying to choose from the little collection of goodies I have, but come Friday I’ll have posted the finished result.

And on to one of this week’s learning activities.

The goal of this particular assignment was to practice making conscience choices when it comes to the use of light and light setting to bring out the shape of the object in a motif. We were supposed to take a picture of a balloon in an improvised home studio, and choose whether we wanted to work with high-key or low-key values, and in addition to that whether we wanted to work with a high or low contrast in those values.

After some experimenting I chose to go with a low-key and fairly low contrast shot of my balloon. (Canon EOS 400D, f/2, 1/160 s, ISO 100, 50 mm)
